Pinterest Intervention

I may need a Pinterest Intervention.

Thanks to my wonderful sister-in-law.  She’s the one who introduced me to it over this past summer.  I was on a road trip to Arizona with my family when I “got in”.  Our car has wireless internet in it and BAM. I became an instant addict.

It did make for a totally fun road trip though.  Instead of reading a good book or flipping through a magazine, I was creating my boards and pinning away, while the kids were lost in their movies and gadgets in the back seat.

Six months later I’m still pinning.  And have 6,000 plus pins over 73 different boards.

I used to love buying magazines–like–Us Weekly, Martha Stewart, Rachel Ray, HGTV Magazine, O, Real Simple. You name it.  Now, unless I’m flying somewhere, I rarely pick one up.

Which is truly a great thing.  Pinterest is actually saving me money and my home from unnecessary clutter.

See, Pinterest can be a good thing.  If you read my Profile on Pinterest, this is what you will find it says, “I’m not afraid to admit that I’m a Pinterest Addict. I joke that I’m a BETTER person because of Pinterest!” Really. Seriously. I am.  I might even be a  better wife and mother.

With the aid of Pinterest I’ve….

…Practically made my own cookbook filled with great Appetizers, Breakfasts, Breads, Snacks, Ice Creams and Dinner ideas.
I’ve created, what I consider to be, my own personal virtual holiday magazines filled with amazing crafts,  decorating tips and gift giving guides.  I feel like Oprah Winfrey and have all my favorite things. Right there at my finger tips.  Ready whenever I need them.
Pinterest has guided me to countless helpful tips for organizing my home.  All of which have come in handy time and time again.  I now have a spice closet that is perfectly neat!! It’s so nice to open it and grab what I need quickly–no more digging for spices or wondering if it is even in there.

My utensil drawer in my kitchen–I organized that too.  Got rid of all the excess and donated it, only kept what I use daily.  I even divided the drawer into sections, using these fabulous bamboo drawer dividers, to keep everything from becoming a big huge mess once again.

My medicine cabinet is currently separated between four different bins.  There’s one just for vitamins, one for OTC and prescription meds, one for first aid and another for heat packs and such.  If something is ailing someone in my home, there is never a question as to where they can find it.  And  better yet, no more expired drugs are lurking there.

My kids have done many fun holiday crafts.

I’ve added several new recipes to our family’s list of favorite meals.

Currently, I’m pinning away ideas for the remodel of our master bath, kitchen and other rooms in our home.  I’ve even given the link to my Home Decor Pinterest page to my interior designer — so that she can get a clear picture of what it is we like.

I’ve found some incredibly insightful ways of teaching Megan new concepts.  Lessons that will assist her with occupational and speech therapy–the key–keeping it fun! And everything I have found more than meets that criteria.

There are people out there who’ve put together lists of excellent educational apps for the iPad which have benefited my kids.  In fact, my girls both got iPads for Christmas last year and I’m seeing seriously awesome results.  Right after Christmas break, Katie immediately passed one of her timed times tables tests.

Just yesterday, Megan’s speech therapist reported that she has developed quite the vocabulary — which I attribute to the speech apps she has on her iPad.  The girl flips through those flash cards daily and repeats the words like a pro. Or a parrot. Regardless, she’s loving her iPad and every app on it.

I’m using Pinterest to help me plan a 60th Wedding Anniversary celebration for my amazing parents this summer.

I’ve made cute things for the kids on the first day of school to make it a little more special.

And have given their teacher’s adorable little gifts.

Those balloons in Megan’s bedroom a week ago on her 10th birthday — from Pinterest.

Pinterest is the perfect platform for planning fun kids’ birthday parties.

My time on Pinterest is not wasted time.  I’m happy to say, I’m actually doing the things that I pin.  Pinterst actually inspires me.

It get’s me off my butt and to the gym.

I’m motivated to eat better.

And the list goes on.  And on.

Some say Pinterest is overwhelming or makes them feel inadequate.

For me. That’s not the case.  It shows me just how easy it is to do some of these projects or bake something sweet to share with family and friends.  They are projects and recipes I would otherwise have not even attempted or better yet~not thought of or taken the time to find on the internet.

{here’s a few of my  favorites}

No longer am I scouring the web for hours in search of whatever it is I’m looking for.  Instead, I pop open Pinterest. It’s all there.  And if I come across something that’s not, well it’s a cinch to add it.

Despite the fact I have over 6,000 pins, I will continue to add more.  Unless there is a Pinterest Intervention.

Because if there’s one thing I know, not only is what I’m finding influencing me to live better, I believe it’s having the same miraculous effect on others. Hence, why Facebook time for many is dwindling and more and more people find themselves lost in Pinterestland.

It’s a fun past time.  Entertaining.

And in case you’re wondering. No I’m not sitting at home all day on Pinterest.  In the beginning, maybe.

I do find myself using Pinterest more as a reference tool now.  And I do tend to browse around on it sometimes while I’m eating breakfast or lunch.  Or while I wait in my car to pick up the kids from school.  And  when I’m bored sitting in waiting rooms during Megan’s various therapies.  It’s a nice escape–which we all need from time to time.

If you haven’t joined Pinterest–give it a try.  I’m sure there is something there that will impress and be of *interest* to you too {the link is up on the top right of this page}.  Just maybe you too will become addicted like me.

Okay. So what do you think? Do I need a Pinterest Intervention? Be honest.

Watch for future Pinterest Reviews.  Things I find worth sharing. And well, perhaps the flops too.

Happy Friday all.
